Per 32 C.F.R. § 2002.34, when feasible, agencies must decontrol records containing CUI prior to transferring them to NARA. WebIn an amendment to the Federal Records Act, Pub. L. 98-497, Congress created the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and in so doing transferred responsibility for preservation and management of federal government records to NARA from the General Service Administration's National Archives and Records Service. 44 U.S.C. § 2102.
