WebOct 6, 2024 · Jefferson, Texas, is a city in Marion County with a rich history. Dubbed "Riverport to the Southwest," Jefferson was a major Texas port between 1845 and 1872. When Allen Urquhart and Daniel Alley founded it in the early 1840s, they named it after US President Thomas Jefferson.
