I have the gimped 555m which is actually just a 550 with GDDR5 ram. It plays BF3 with many settings on Ultra. AND I get 6+ hours of battery life (not gaming). Gaming full on I can easily get an hour, maybe more. $1000 will get you a great gaming laptop.
