WebCyberSecurity heavily favors Experience and certifications. I personally think it's better to get an assocaites or bachelors, get right into working to build that experience. WebThere are plenty of SWE roles within cyber security though. Someone has to code antivirus engines, data leakage prevention, and all the front end that powers all that stuff. In terms of location, there are a lot more cybersecurity positions available from the government than from the private sector. There are also more jobs available for SWEs.

WebCybersecurity as a title is a very specific role that not every company will hire, only very BIG companies. For most normal companies out there the title will be network analyst/engineer or sysadmin, and this type of guy will do everything related to Infrastructure, including security. WebIf your university offers a path similar to software engineering then you can look into that. Think web development, databases, etc. I was able to get into a similar program but had a broader scope and was more focused on learning tech and coding skills. Cybersecurity is interesting, but it can also be difficult.
WebThen few and far between are the people with actual development level or true software knowledge, these are the people that companies want but the unfortunate thing is that most cybersecurity work isn't what these guys want to do because there is a ton of checklist type work associated with it. WebDon't do it. Entry level cyber security jobs are considered intermediate/experienced professional level in technology and 6 months is not enough to make you useful to most hiring managers.
